Joe Stays In The Capital

08/05/2026

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Joe Lynch for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.

Joe will enter his 5th season as a Capitals player, having joined the club as a 16-year-old back in 2022. Since then, Joe has taken his game to another level, year after year he has improved, leading to an incredible season personally last term when he grabbed 100 points in our double winning campaign.

Joe finished the 2025-2026 season with 56 goals and 44 assists in 39 games to lead the SNL scoring charts in all competitions. He also wore an A on his jersey, and at still only 19 he has shown he is a leader both on and off the ice for this club.

Throughout the 2025-2026 season, Joe also stepped up to play games in the NIHL and EIHL with both Sheffield Steeldogs and Fife Flyers/Sheffield Steelers respectively. That experience he gained has been invaluable, and the club are extremely fortunate to have him onboard for another year.

Joe was also part of the GB U20’s roster at the World Championships back in January. He was again chosen as a leader and wore the C throughout the tournament.

Joe had this to say on his return to the Caps, “I’m buzzing to be back for another year, last year was a successful and fun season and I’m excited to be a part of it once again.

“To finally get over the hump and bring the League and Scottish Cup back to Edinburgh was something we and the fans deserved all season long.

“Our/my goals don’t change for this upcoming season. I want to win everything possible; the goal should be nothing less than coming 1st place once again.

“Enjoy the summer, Caps fans. Have a good one, from The Mayor.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch knows how vital it is to have Joe back for another year, “The first resigning of the season is a huge one for us as a club, being able to keep hold of a player like Joe for another year. His progression over the last four years with the Capitals has made him a fans favourite, one of the top players in this league and a massive part of our success last season. He had some interest from teams in England, but he made it clear to us that he wanted to stay, and we’re delighted that he has. He has an obvious passion for the club and the fans, and he’s looking forward to his fifth season as a Capital.

“Joe was a big difference maker in a lot of games last year, and we expect him to do the same again next season, if not more. His energy and style of play go down well with the Murrayfield crowd who I’m sure will be delighted that he’s returning, we feel that we’ve got a player that’s going to continue to keep getting better and he’ll give us a great chance to win hockey games on any given night.

“Most people thought he would move on to different things this summer. It just goes to show how well run the club is that players of this calibre and with a lot of potential want to stay and be a part of it.”

More signing news will follow very soon.
