Youngster Justin Is Locked In

27/05/2026

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Justin Finnigan for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.

Justin broke into the team at the start of last season at only 15 years of age. As the year progressed, he proved he could handle his own at the senior level. He grabbed his first senior goal right after the turn of the year and followed that up with a few more before the campaign ended.

To top off a great season, he was selected for the Scotland U17 team to play at the Showcase event in Sheffield a few weeks back, picking up a goal and 2 assists in 3 games.

In 36 games for the Caps last term, he scored 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points along with 43 penalty minutes. He showed he was not afraid to mix it up and played with no fear throughout, whilst also bringing speed and a hard work ethic to the team. At the Club’s recent awards night, Justin won the Rookie of the Year award, and this speaks volumes about how well he had established himself over the 2025-2006 season.

In 2026-2027, Justin will look to kick on while still playing U19 junior hockey with the newly formed Edinburgh Capitals Academy. Justin grew up playing in the Murrayfield Junior system from an early age, and it’s great to see a local kid coming through the ranks and breaking into the senior team.

We spoke with Justin recently to see what he had to say on returning, “I’m excited to be back for the new season. Last year was a bit of a whirlwind, from making my senior debut, scoring my first senior goal to then go on and represent Scotland.

“Playing in front of the Caps fans has been very special and there is no better place to play than a packed-out Lion’s Den. I can’t wait to get back on the ice. Lynchy and Chad, along with all the boys, have been great with me since day one, helping me progress and improve my game.

“Hopefully, we can have another successful year, and more silverware will be ours come the end of the season.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch is excited to be working with a young, upcoming kid once again, “If Justin continues to progress at the same rate he has over the last 18 months, then the sky truly could be the limit for him. When we invited a young, eager newcomer to practice with us a year and a half ago, we weren’t sure what to expect. However, seeing how hard Justin has worked both on the ice during practice and in the gym, he has now reached a point where some of our senior players are starting to look over their shoulders, as Justin is almost ready to leapfrog them and take a regular spot on the roster.

“We are all incredibly proud of how far he has come. He is a pleasure to work with, always listening and learns from coaches and senior teammates. Justin’s dedication and positive attitude has inspired everyone, and the team is always keen to support his development because he has become a valued member.

“A recent highlight was Justin’s outstanding performance representing Scotland in Sheffield, and Chad and I fully expect him to take on a much bigger role in the team next season. We’re excited to see what Justin can accomplish as his journey continues.”

That’s another name added to the roster; more will follow very, very soon.

LET’S GO CAPITALS!
