Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the signing of forward Caly Robertson for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.
The 25-year-old brings a wealth of experience to Murrayfield, having featured in both the EIHL and NIHL during his career to date. Last season, Caly split his time between Hull Seahawks and Bristol Pitbulls in the NIHL, recording an impressive 16 goals and 28 assists for 44 points in 68 games across all competitions.
Caly is no stranger to the Capitals, having previously iced for the club as a 16-year-old during the 2017-2018 Elite League season, making 38 appearances and contributing 2 goals and 1 assist. A product of the Kirkcaldy junior system, he crossed the Forth to join the Caps, where he played a year of junior hockey at Murrayfield while also featuring for the club’s SNL side.
Throughout his career, Caly has represented several clubs across the British game. In the SNL, he has played for Edinburgh Capitals, Kirkcaldy Kestrels, Dundee Comets, and Murrayfield Racers. His EIHL experience includes spells with Edinburgh Capitals, Dundee Stars, and Fife Flyers, while in the NIHL, he has suited up for Milton Keynes Lightning, Bracknell Bees, Leeds Knights, Solway Sharks, Hull Seahawks, and Bristol Pitbulls.
On the international stage, Caly represented Scotland at every junior age group and proudly wore the Great Britain jersey at both the U18 and U20 levels. He was also part of the Great Britain U18 squad that captured a gold medal at the 2017-20-8 IIHF World Championship.
Hockey runs deep in the Robertson family. His older brother Aaron is a familiar face to Capitals fans after his spell with the club from 2022 until the early part of last season, while his father Iain also represented the Capitals during the 1999-200 and 2002–2004 campaigns.
Caly will add speed, skill, and valuable experience to an already exciting forward group, and his return represents another major statement of intent from the Capitals ahead of the new season.
Speaking on his return to Edinburgh, Caly said, “Coming back to Edinburgh is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and with the growth of the club over the last few years, it’s an opportunity I simply couldn’t pass up.
“I started my career with the Caps, so it will be a special feeling pulling on the jersey again. I can’t wait to get back on the ice and do everything I can to help bring silverware home for the mighty Caps fans.
“I’m looking forward to joining up with the boys. I already know a lot of them, which makes the transition back into the team that much easier. See you all in August!”
Head Coach Steven Lynch is delighted to bring back a player he has known since a very young age, “Another statement signing for us which illustrates how far we’ve come as a club in a relatively short space of time. Caly has played at a higher level away from home for most of his career, but has now had a slight change in outlook and is starting to think about the next chapter of his life. We’ve spoken several times since the end of last season, sold Edinburgh & the Caps to him, and he sees that he can continue to play at a big club, enjoy hockey, while still being able to look ahead to life outside of the rink.
“By stepping into the SNL, we expect him to be dynamic and play a huge part in helping us to achieve our goals for the season ahead. He’s a very fast, offensively minded player who knows how to score goals and create opportunities for others. His experience of playing at a higher level will be invaluable for us as the season goes on. He’s looking forward to it, and we can’t wait to see him in a Caps uniform.”
This is another high-profile addition for the Capitals, with the squad continuing to take shape ahead of the 2026-2027 season and more exciting announcements still to come.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
