Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of utility player Kris Phillips for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.
The veteran returns for another season, bringing a wealth of hockey knowledge, leadership, and experience to the Capitals lineup. Last season, Philly featured in 39 games across all competitions, recording 8 goals and 13 assists for 21 points.
This will be his third season in a Capitals jersey after joining the club from Dundee Tigers ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. He has become a huge presence in the dressing room, playing an important role in helping the younger players develop, always offering advice and doing whatever he can to support the team.
The recently turned 36-year-old began his hockey journey in his hometown of Dundee before spending time playing in Canada. He later played in the Elite League with the Capitals, Dundee Stars, and Fife Flyers over three years before stepping down to the SNL. Since then, he has enjoyed successful periods with Dundee Tigers, Dundee Comets, and Paisley Pirates.
Speaking on his return, Philly said, “I can’t wait to get back at it with the lads. Last season was a massive success, but it has now set the standard that we will be judged by. We’re demanding nothing less this year, and there’s still unfinished business until all three trophies are back home with us and celebrated in front of the best fans in the league.
“We bagged a few trophies last year.
We had the biggest weekly attendance in the league.
We have the best fans in the league.
“No Caps, No Party. LET’S GO!”
Head Coach Steven Lynch knows the value of having experienced players in his squad, saying, “We used to give Ross Dalgleish the nickname ‘Uncle Dags’. Philly appears to have taken over that role now — whether it’s by choice or by default, I’m not sure! He’s the person who passes on his wisdom, and the younger guys really look up to him, listen to him, and take on board what he says.
“It’s no secret that he’s the elder statesman of the team now, but the experiences he has gained throughout his career and the knowledge he shares are invaluable. He can still contribute massively on the ice and play a big role for us.
“Every team needs a Philly. He can play any position in the lineup, remains calm under pressure, and always knows the right thing to say in the dressing room at exactly the right time.”
Another key piece of the team is now in place, with more roster news to come as we move closer to finalising the squad for the new season.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
