Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Rhys Stenhouse for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.
Rhys returns for his fifth season in a Capitals jersey after joining the club back in 2022. Since then, he has made over 100 appearances, registering four goals and six assists for a total of 10 points.
Last season, the 22-year-old featured in 36 games, contributing two goals and three assists. Originally joining the Caps as a defenceman, Rhys made the transition to forward last year and embraced the role, providing a hard-working ethic when called upon.
A product of the Murrayfield junior system, Rhys spent a season with Fife’s Under-19 side before returning to his hometown club. As he heads into another campaign, he’ll be looking to build on last season and make the most of every opportunity.
Speaking after signing for another year, Rhys said, “It’s great to be back for another year here in the Lion’s Den. Last season was special with us winning two trophies, but it’s only made us all hungrier and wanting more.
“We know every team will be coming after us this season, but with the new faces we’ve brought in, we’ll be ready to go when the league campaign gets underway.
“There’s no better place to play hockey than in front of the Caps fans. I’m excited to get back into pre-season, back on the ice with the boys, and hopefully we’ll have more silverware to celebrate come next April.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch knows the importance of having depth throughout the squad and said, “Rhys is the type of player that any coach needs in his squad because you know that you can depend on him and you know that he’ll give everything he has to give to the cause.
“He’ll volunteer to play on defence or as a forward, doesn’t miss a practise, loves hockey and loves being a Capital.
“He knows his role within the team. He’ll have a part to play this season. We always talk about having good people in our dressing room, and Rhys fits the mould. We’re a better group with him being a part of it.”
The countdown to the new season is well underway, and with just a few roster announcements still to come, it won’t be long before the Capitals are back on the ice.
