Sean Is A Cap Once More

18/01/2025

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the signing of experienced forward Sean Donaldson for the remainder of the 2024-2025 SNL campaign.

With a few players recently departing, Head Coach Steven Lynch has moved quickly to bring in the 37-year-old veteran to bolster the lineup. Sean last played competitively back in season 2019-2020 just before the pandemic hit where he was part of a successful Murrayfield Racers team.

Edinburgh-born, Sean grew up playing his junior hockey here in the Capital with Murrayfield Juniors. From there he made his first steps into senior hockey when he iced for the Capitals Elite League team in 2007-2008. He would only play 2 games that season but was able to grab a goal in a game against Basingstoke. The following year he was again part of the Elite League roster and would play in 16 games once again scoring 1 goal this time against Hull.

This was a great experience for him playing with imports such as Martin Cingel, Mark Hurtubise and Doug Christiansen. From there he would play another 12 games in the topflight between 2010-2015.

Sean became a big part of the Capitals SNL team picking up some silverware along the way. He would also captain the side in season 2015-2016.

After a year out of hockey in 2017-2018, he returned to the ice at the start of 2018-2019 to sign with the newly formed Murrayfield Racers. He would play alongside several current Caps and he will fit right into the locker room these upcoming months being around familiar faces.

Head Coach Steven Lynch had this to say on our latest signing. “We’ve been looking to add to our squad for a few weeks now to give us a bit more depth as we go down the stretch. Sean’s signing gives us that with some added experience.

He’s a guy I’ve known since he was a junior at Murrayfield and is known to give his all every time he steps on the ice.

He’s not played in two or three years so will need a couple of weeks to get back into it but he’s naturally fit and knows how to play at this level so we have no concerns with adding him to our roster.”

Sean will be available for both our games this weekend and he commented on his return. “I am excited to be back with the Capitals. I’ve loved being back in the changing room and on the ice with the boys this week.

I’ll be doing what I can to contribute to the team winning as many games as possible.

Having my kids in the stand for some games, at an age where they know what is going on, will be pretty awesome too. I’ve had great support and encouragement from those close to me and they are a huge part of me coming back to play.”
