Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the return of top-scoring forward Chad Smith for the 2025-2026 SNL campaign. As well as playing next season, Chad will also take on the new role of Assistant Coach.
Since signing with the club back in 2022, Chad has been a huge part of any success the Capitals have had. He has led the team in scoring two out of his three seasons here in Edinburgh, and he will look to continue you this going forward.
In 106 games so far he has scored 103 goals, 108 assists for a total of 211 points. Averaging 2 points a game.
In the season just finished he posted 35 goals and 44 assists in 35 games to finish in top spot in the scoring charts. As well as bringing a wealth of experience to the locker room he is also a leader and a great teammate on and off the ice.
Through the years he has become a firm fan favourite and how could you not love that bow and arrow celebration we have seen on many occasions when he scores a big goal in an important game.
Head Coach Steven Lynch moved fast once again to secure the signature of his top talisman and had this to say, “This is a great appointment. Not just for what Chad brings on the ice, but also what he will now bring off it. Although he’s still relatively young, he’s ready for this, and I’m excited to be able to work with him again, firstly as a player but now also as the assistant coach. I’ve always said that Chad’s best attribute is that he’s a good person, and you need good people around you.
We’ve had two or three really good discussions already about last year’s team and where we need to go from here and the most positive thing I can say about this right now is so far, we’ve pretty much agreed on everything and have the same vision and ideas on the next season and beyond.
I know he will give it everything, and I know the Caps fans will support him in his new role. Let’s also not forget that we’ve just re-signed one of the league’s best players.”
26 year old, Kirkcaldy born Chad is delighted to be back onboard and said this on his return, “I’m excited to be back for a fourth season with the Capitals. I really feel at home here in Edinburgh, I love the club, the fans and I enjoy playing in front of them every week.
I was disappointed about the season that’s just ended and it wouldn’t have sat right to leave after that year. I’m really excited to take on the role as Assistant Player Coach and I look forward to learning under Lynchy. Hopefully I can bring some fresh ideas into the club and help Lynchy in building a team that can win silverware that the fans deserve.
We have tasted some success over the last 3 years, and we will be looking to build a team to compete in every competition we enter once again this upcoming season.
Enjoy the summer, Caps fans, and I will see you all in September.”
Coach Lynch will be looking to build his team over the coming months and Chad is a great first signing of the off season. Keep your eye on the club’s social media channels for signing news as it happens.
LET’S GO CAPS!!
