Captain Joel Is Back

28/05/2025

Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce that club captain Joel Gautschi will return for the 2025-2026 SNL campaign.

The 34-year-old centre brings a wealth of experience to the line-up having been around the league for many years. He first iced in the SNL away back in 2010-11 before playing a few years in the Elite League with the club. In 2018-19, he was captain of a successful Murrayfield Racers side before signing in Dundee with the Comets for a year.

In 2022-23, when the Caps returned, Joel was brought in by Head Coach Steven Lynch. Over the 3 campaigns to follow, he has been in the top 3 in team scoring. Last year, he played in 32 games, scoring 25 goals, 37 assists for 62 points.

Although now in the veteran stage of his career, Joel will again lead the charge when we hit the ice in September. He had this to say on his return. “I’m delighted to sign on again for another year here in Edinburgh. We have come up short in the last few campaigns, but we are determined to change that in the new season.

“Hopefully, we can build a strong team to compete for all the silverware. It will be an interesting summer to watch the team come together and getting ready to take to the ice in September.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch knows how important it is to have experience in your team, and he is very happy to have one of his top scorers back on board. “Chad and I are delighted that Joel will be back once again for another year to lead the team. His will to win is by far and away his best quality, and he hasn’t taken being second best for the last three years lightly.

“Having Joel back for another year simply makes us better. He might be getting older, but he’s still one of the fittest guys on the team, and we know that we can put him on the ice in any situation, and not only will he excel, but he’ll also drive everyone else on.

We’ve got our leader/warrior back to set the tone for another year.”

It’s still very early in the summer, but the club is working hard to build a team you can all be proud of in the new season. Keep in touch with the club’s social media channels for all the latest team news as it happens. More news will be released very soon.
