A Hawk Has Landed

23/06/2025

Edinburgh Capitals are excited to announce the new signing of netminder Ben Keddie for the 2025-2026 SNL campaign.

The 20-year-old stopper arrives at the club having spent the last three seasons playing in the NIHL 1 with Blackburn Hawks. During his time as a Hawk, he won both the NIHL 1 North Cup and the NIHL North Playoff Championship in the 2023-24 season.

Ben started his career playing junior hockey in his hometown of Kirkcaldy. He progressed through the age groups, also representing Scotland along the way. He got his first taste of senior hockey in 2021-22 when he iced for Kirkcaldy Kestrels in the SNL. He would share the netminding duties that year with the recently departed Craig Chalmers, and he, along with some other current Caps, went on to lift the SNL League trophy.

The following season, 2022-23, he again signed with the Kestrels whilst also signing a two-way deal with Blackburn. He would also get the opportunity to play as the backup goalie with the Fife Flyers in the Elite League on a handful of occasions, which was a great experience for him, as he played and trained at three different levels.

2023-24 after starting with the Kestrels, he then signed with the Hawks, playing the whole season, and picking up some silverware along the way. Last year, although no trophies for him and his Hawks teammates, he again had an impressive season between the pipes.

Standing at 6ft tall, Ben is a huge presence in the net, and he will be looking to have a very impressive first year with the Caps in the SNL. We asked him as to why Edinburgh was the place for him this season, “I’m really excited to be joining the Caps for the upcoming season. I have heard nothing but good things about the club from other players.

“Playing in Edinburgh has always been fun when I’ve played there in the past, so I can only imagine what it’s like skating out there every week.

“Having known Lynchy for a while, I know the high standards he has and how much he wants to win. I’m fully confident we can do that and bring some trophies back to Edinburgh.”

Head Coach Steven Lynch is excited to have a player he knows really well from the junior days as part of our roster. “Another new face to add to the team and another big signing for us. Ben is another one of those players that I’ve had the pleasure of coaching on and off from a young age – I think he was 7 when it started, and I’m excited that I’m getting the chance to work with him again.

“As I’ve watched him grow up, I’ve watched him get better and better year on year, and it’s all down to having a great attitude and being incredibly hard working and dedicated to being the best that he can become.

“He’s exactly the type of person that we want here in Edinburgh to help us constantly improve our club. We’re delighted that he’s joined us, and I’m sure that he will increase our chances of winning each time he’s in the net.”

Ben is our 12th player signed for the 2025-26 season. Others will follow very shortly. Stay tuned.
