Edinburgh Capitals and Sheffield Steeldogs of the NIHL will go head to head in pre-season action on Saturday and Sunday, the 6th/7th of September, here at Murrayfield Ice Arena.
The game on Saturday the 6th will be a 6.30pm face off with the Sunday game starting at 3pm.
This will be a great challenge for Head Coach Steven Lynch and his team as they prepare for the new season. Steeldogs finished 6th in the NIHL last season and will bring a very strong roster here to the Lion’s Den. The Yorkshire men recently changed Head Coach with Slava Koulikov taking over, joining from Peterborough Phantoms. This will also be an opportunity for him to see his new team in action.
Veteran forward Jonathan Phillips is again part of their roster, a name British hockey fans will be very familiar with. Jono was the Sheffield Steelers and GB captain for well over 10 years and had an illustrious career in pro hockey.
Last pre-season, the Caps faced off against Solway Sharks of the NIHL and gave a good account of themselves against a team from a much higher league. This will be the aim again in the two games against the Steeldogs, and it will be great to welcome them to Murrayfield for the first time in the club’s history.
Assistant Coach Chad Smith said, “This will be a great test for the team before the league season gets underway. Playing Solway last pre-season was great for the boys to dust off the cobwebs and get back into it. We competed well in both games against an NIHL side, and we will be hoping for the same against the Steeldogs.
“We know they will bring a very strong roster to Edinburgh, and it will give myself and Lynchy a good chance to look at our new roster and work on things in preparation for the real action kicking off shortly afterwards.
“We would love to see the Caps fans here in their numbers and start the season with a packed arena.”
Tickets are now available to buy on Fanbase. Please note these two games will NOT be covered by the season ticket.
We can’t wait to see all you Caps fans back in the Lion’s Den cheering on the team. This will be the start of what is set to be an extremely exciting season of hockey.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
