Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Joel Gautschi for the 2026-2027 SNL campaign.
Club Captain Joel brings a wealth of experience, having been around the league for many years. Now, in the veteran stage of his career, the 35-year-old is still going strong and remains one of the top forwards in the SNL.
In the 2025-2026 season, he led the club to a double, and in 38 games he scored 19 goals and 40 assists for 59 points. Joel is one of the best playmakers in the league, a very unselfish player always looking to find that pass to set up a line mate.
Over the years, Joel has been a top scorer in all the teams he has played for. He has been a huge part of hockey here in Edinburgh, be it with the Caps SNL before the reforming of the team, Murrayfield Racers and he also played in the EIHL for a couple of seasons with the club back in 2010-2014.
Once season in Dundee with the Comets saw him return to the capital when the team returned to the ice back in 2022. Since then, as captain, he has led both on and off the ice and again will have a huge part to play if we are to have success this upcoming campaign.
On returning for another year, Joel said, “Last season was our best year yet since the club started back up in 2022. With a good mixture of experience and youth, it ended up very successful, with us grabbing the double.
“We know everyone will now be out to beat us this new season, but we will be ready to go come September. Lynchy is again putting together a strong team, and it’s going to be another exciting time to be a Caps player here in Edinburgh.
“The fans were huge for us last year and we will need them once again, and hopefully we can keep building this great fanbase. See you all after the summer.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch is delighted to have his leader back on board, “We are delighted we’ve got Joel back for another year. His desire and will to win is second to none, and he’s often the driving force on the ice and in the dressing room.
At 35, he’s still one of the fittest guys on the team; he is very popular in the dressing room. Like previous seasons, he’ll have a big part to play, and a big part of any success we have will be down to him.
“Another year fiver, we welcome back our general for another season.”
Joel is our 11th signing so far. More will follow very shortly. Stay tuned to our social media channels.
LET’S GO CAPITALS!
