Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the signing of forward Richard Hartmann for the 2026–2027 SNL campaign.
The 20-year-old spent last season in the NIHL, splitting his time between the Peterborough Phantoms and Hull Seahawks. Across 46 games, Richard recorded seven goals and eight assists for 15 points.
Originally born in Slovakia, Richard first arrived in Edinburgh and played junior hockey with Murrayfield at U16 level before returning to Slovakia for a short spell.
He later returned to Scotland, joining the Dundee Comets in the SNL while continuing his junior career within the Dundee system. From 2021 to 2024, Richard was part of the Comets roster, helping the club secure both the Scottish Cup and Play-Off title during the 2022–2023 season.
At the beginning of the 2024–2025 season, Richard returned to Slovakia to play U20 hockey with HK Skalica. Midway through the season, he returned to the UK and signed with MK Lightning in the NIHL. After seven games, he moved to the Peterborough Phantoms, where he spent the remainder of the campaign.
Speaking on signing with the Capitals, Richard said, “I’m really excited to start playing here with the Caps. I saw how great the fans are and can’t wait to show them what I can do out there on the ice, and hopefully this season we can go on and win everything.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch is delighted to strengthen the forward group, “When you have an opportunity at any point to strengthen your team, you should take it. Richard is a player that makes us a little bit better and makes our forward group a little bit deeper, so when he came to us saying he wanted to play in Edinburgh, we didn’t have to think too hard about it.
“He will bring a good skill set and energy to our line-up. Opposing teams won’t enjoy playing against him and, at 20, he’s in the age bracket of players we like to bring to the club.
“We have spoken to him in the past and thought we had him signed a couple of times before, so we’re delighted that we’ll finally see him in a Caps uniform.”
His dad, Richard Hartmann Snr, was Player Coach of the Capitals back in our Elite League days from 2011-2015.
Richard will be available for selection this Saturday when the Capitals take on the Solway Sharks in the Scottish Cup Quarter Final 1st Leg.
