Young GB Duo Sign With The Edinburgh Capitals

16/07/2022

Edinburgh Capitals Head Coach Steven Lynch has confirmed the double signing of GB youngsters, Joe Lynch and Dominick Jaglar. Both players represented Team GB U16s last season and participated in the Riga Cup in Latvia. They also both played for Dundee U16s and U19s as well as being on the squad for Scotland U17s last year.

Joe Lynch, son of Head Coach Steven Lynch, arrives at the Capitals after spending last season icing with Dundee U16s. The Fife born forward was a part of the Kirkcaldy Junior system before moving to play with Dundee at the start of season 2021-22. The 16 year old grabbed 52 points in 13 games and he will look to gain valuable experience over the coming campaign playing in the Scottish National League.

Joe has spoken of his excitement to be part of the team, “The reason I have signed with Edinburgh is because I believe it’s the best place to further my career and I think the Capitals can help take me to the level of hockey I want to get to. I’m looking forward to this season as it gives me a chance to improve my game in the SNL as it will be my first opportunity to play senior hockey. My Dad has always told me about Edinburgh and how much he enjoyed playing there and I can’t wait to get started, meet my new teammates and the fans.”

Netminder Dominick Jaglar was born in Dundee into a hockey background and naturally progressed through the Dundee Juniors. Last year he also iced with the Manchester Storm Academy U16s to develop his game. Like Joe, he is a 16 year old who is looking to test himself at SNL level. Along with the recently announced Craig Chalmers, the Capitals are in good hands between the pipes this coming season.

On signing for the Capitals Dominick commented, “I wanted to sign for Edinburgh so I could further develop my skills in a different team and so I could prepare myself for going abroad in the near future. I have known coach Steven Lynch for many years through the Scottish Ice Hockey Development and as a rival. I’m more than sure he is capable of building a very strong team and I’m very pleased to get the offer from Lynchy to be a part of this roster for the upcoming season. I hope I can help the team win the SNL league title. I’m very excited to get the season underway and I’m ready to start training with the team as soon as I can, I’m sure this season will be a fun one.”

Coach Lynch is delighted to have the two youngsters on board. He said, “I have obviously spent a long time in junior coaching and developing young players and although I am now in senior hockey, that mindset I have when it comes to development won’t change. When you talk about these two young players we have recruited, the word potential comes to mind. Both were selected to the GB U16 team last year, have excellent work ethics, good attitudes, and are determined to become professional hockey players down the line. They now look to take the next step in their careers into senior hockey to attempt to achieve that. I believe at 16, both are ready for SNL minutes and think the fans of Edinburgh Capitals will take to them both. Joe has a great engine, forechecks and backchecks hard, has a good eye for goal, and will be a pest for players to play against. Dom plays much older than his 16 years through good positioning and quickness around the crease and will provide good competition for Craig Chalmers throughout the season, becoming the second piece of the goaltending duo.”

More signing news will follow very soon.
