Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the signing of forward Marcus Murdoch for the 2026-2027 SNL season.
The 26-year-old joins the club after spending the last four seasons with the Paisley Pirates. During the 2025-2026 campaign, Murdoch appeared in 36 games for the Glasgow-based side, recording 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points across all competitions.
A product of the Kilmarnock junior system, Marcus took his first steps into senior hockey during the 2016-2017 season with the then Kilmarnock Storm. Over the following two seasons, he combined junior hockey with SNL appearances for the newly renamed Kilmarnock Thunder. In both campaigns, he led the Thunder in scoring, posting 29 points in his first season before following that up with 26 points the next year.
For the 2019-2020 season, his first full year as a senior player, Marcus joined the Solway Sharks, who at the time competed in both NIHL 1 and the SNL. Splitting his time between the two levels, he contributed 14 points in NIHL 1 and an impressive 32 points in the SNL. It was with the Sharks’ SNL side that he enjoyed his first taste of silverware, helping the team capture the league title.
Following the disruption caused by the pandemic, Marcus returned to his roots by rejoining Kilmarnock Thunder. He quickly rediscovered his form, once again leading the team in scoring with 29 points. A young Conner McNulty was also part of that Thunder squad, and the pair will reunite in Edinburgh this coming season.
The following year began in Kilmarnock before a mid-season move to the Paisley Pirates, where Braehead would become his home for the next three seasons. Over the last two campaigns, Marcus has worn an alternate captain’s ‘A’, highlighting the leadership qualities he brings both on and off the ice.
Speaking on signing with the Capitals, Marcus said, “I’m delighted to be joining the Caps this year. Having played against them, I know the quality within the squad and how difficult they are to come up against.
“I’m excited to be playing alongside the team and having the opportunity to play with some familiar faces again.
“The club had a fantastic season last year, backed by a supportive fan base, and I’m looking forward to doing my part to help continue that success next season.”
Head Coach Steven Lynch is confident Marcus will make a strong impact in Edinburgh. “Marcus is another player I’ve spoken to a couple of times in the past about coming to Edinburgh, but we’ve never managed to get everything aligned until now.
.
“I like his game. He’s skilled, smart, works hard, and knows how to put the puck in the net when given a chance. He approached us about coming to Edinburgh because he sees what’s happening here and wants to be a part of it.
“He’ll have an important role to play next season if we’re going to be successful. He’s a player who adds depth to our forward group and brings a fresh injection of energy to the roster.”
With roster spots filling quickly and preparations for the new season well underway, there is plenty more news to come. Keep an eye on our social media channels as further signings will be announced very soon.
